Orion is a three-dimensional scattering center extraction tool, based upon on the high-frequency scattering engine in lucernhammer MT. Orion operates much the same as lucernhammer MT, however it generates a 3D scattering center database versus angle instead of the typical .field and .rcs output files that users most commonly use.
Orion is based on the one-look SAR algorithm originally developed for shooting and bouncing ray (SBR) codes. It can generate linearly or circularly polarized scattering centers for a sweep of angles, or over the entire unit sphere. Because scattering center databases are a concise way of representing the signature of an object, they can be used to characterize the object's RCS versus versus all aspect and roll angles. This may be otherwise impossible when storing Nyquist sampled complex-valued fields versus aspect, roll and frequency.
Like the other lucernhammer tools, Orion is parallelized for multi-processor computers, and is highly optimized.
